Reasonable people can disagree about the safety of thimerosal in childhood vaccines, but fortunately it's now easy to avoid thimerosal (in the United States). The influenza vaccine is available without thimerosal if you obtain the single-dose formulation (ask your pediatrician). All other recommended childhood vaccines are now available without thimerosal. In some cases, it may be slightly more expensive to obtain the thimerosal-free vaccine. The FDA has a handy table detailing thimerosal content in childhood vaccines.
